GVM Upgrades

Need to increase your towing or load capacity?

Barossa 4x4 & Outdoors are fully licensed to perform a GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) Upgrade to your vehicle's suspension and exclusively supply Toughdog products.

Barossa 4x4 & Outdoors is a trusted independent mechanic based in the scenic region of Barossa Valley. We specialise in providing an array of quality services and automotive solutions to make sure that you are travelling safe and sound in your vehicle.

Among these services, one that proves to be vital for drivers intending to tow or add weight beyond their vehicle’s original Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) is a GVM upgrade. Adding or towing weight beyond your vehicle's original GVM could risk the performance and safety of your vehicle. Not only this, driving an overloaded vehicle is illegal and can void your insurance cover in case of an accident.

GVM refers to the maximum allowable weight a vehicle can carry. Adding accessories like bull bars, roof racks, or towing a caravan or trailer may cause the vehicle to exceed its GVM, compromising safety, performance, and legality. Thus, a GVM upgrade to increase the payload capacity may be required.

In South Australia, such upgrades can be made pre-registration (before the first registration of a new vehicle) or post-registration (if a vehicle is 12 months or older). Pre-registration upgrades can be registered without requiring approval from the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), while post-registration upgrades require an engineers approval report from DIT after rigorous testing for compliance with Australian Design Rules (ADRs).

Our team at Barossa 4x4 & Outdoors will gladly help you navigate through the process of getting your vehicle inspected and deemed roadworthy.

At Barossa 4x4 & Outdoors, we’re proud to be exclusive agents and installers of Toughdog Suspension kits and upgrades.
